Sea Fever headed down the Menai Straights towards and under the Britannia Bridge.
As they entered the Swellies, they saw White Cloud, firmly aground.
They safely got past, but only to hit their own rock slightly further on.
Fortunately they escaped three hours later as the tide rose and rowed through the swellies and under the Menai Bridge. They had avoided using their engine so were still in the race.
White Cloud was less lucky and had to retire from the damage.
It was entirely avoidable as we were so busy rubbernecking the White Cloud disaster we took our eyes off the depth sounder and strayed too far right into shallow water. Fortunately the rock we got stuck on was a nice round one and we were able to put out a kedge anchor into the channel using the dinghy. We then put the kettle on had tea and read the Sunday papers. Once the tide came back up again after three hours or so we were rowing sailing and kedging to get the boat back into the channel. Luckily it worked!
